I should really go back and talk about ALL the different therapies we have tried. Emily has done so many things, and had many successes along the way. However.....I think I will save that for another post.
SOMETHING HUGE HAS HAPPENED!!!!!
Over a year ago, I placed a call to Virginia Children's Hospital at the recommendation of a friend. You see, when you have friends with kids who have...issues....we kinda stick together.
Anyway, I called and asked for an appointment to have them evaluate Emily for their feeding program. It is unlike anything we have tried before. Much more intensive and focused, which is very different than the options that are local to us. I have pretty much exhausted everything that I can get my hands on here, unless it is a repeat of another program.
It took us 3 months to get in for an evaluation, but we finally did! We took a road trip in January to Richmond and got to meet the staff and talk all about Emily and her history. Boy, did I unload some information on those people! They checked her weight, height, as well as nutritional and psychological evaluation. By the end of this unwieldy day, they told us she was a great candidate for the program and I rejoiced! Only caveat was the nearly insurmountable waiting list. They told us to expect a year. We had to wait A YEAR to help her eat. I was already desperate. How the hell was I going to make it another year?
Then I remembered this.....

So we carried on, and waited. And guess what? We got a call a few weeks ago that she has a spot in December. Holy smokes!!!! This is gonna be crazy hard. Life is gonna be upside down for us for a while. But all I can think about is how many things have fallen into place that have allowed us the opportunity to truly take advantage of this program. These things were not in our lives 3 months ago. This is where we are supposed to be as a family, doing what we are supposed to be doing for our daughter.
